Matt Ostanik, AIA

Chairman of the Board and Founder

Matt is an architect, an entrepreneur, and an experienced business leader. He previously founded and led a construction software company, Submittal Exchange. In a five year period, the company grew from two employees to more than 100 and more than 100,000 users of the product. Matt sold Submittal Exchange to Textura Corporation in 2011 and remained its president. He then served on the executive team at Textura when the company completed a successful IPO on the New York Stock Exchange in June 2013. Matt sought to return to his entrepreneurial roots and formed Charrette Venture Group in 2014.


Todd L. Reding

President and CEO

Todd has served in many roles in both the private sector and non-profit organizations. While serving as the Vice President for Alumni and Development at Grinnell College, he earned an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. He was named the President and CEO of ASI Signage Innovations in 2008 and in 2011 he was among the first employees of the software startup, FunnelWise. Today he remains a senior advisor to the company, while also serving in his role at Charrette Venture Group. Todd is also an Adjunct Lecturer on Entrepreneurialism at the University of Iowa and chair of the board of trustees of Grinnell Regional Medical Center.


Jeff Echols

Digital Marketing Expert

Jeff is a creative and strategic Digital Communications and Digital Marketing professional. He’s a Storyteller. He’s a Networker; a Connector. Jeff crafts engaging stories for businesses, individuals and organizations around their unique passion, purpose and value. The Marketing Director at a client architecture firm once said, “Jeff has an overall commitment to cutting edge, customer-centric digital marketing practices he develops and writes about. As our firm ramps up a social media-based marketing effort, Jeff’s guidance and support as a sounding-board and critic have been incredibly valuable. I trust his direction and advice, and suggest that others in the digitally-lagging AEC industry pay close attention to him.”



Rena M. Klein

Operational and Financial Analysis Expert

Rena M. Klein FAIA is a nationally recognized expert in small firm practice and author of The Architect’s Guide to Small Firm Management (Wiley, 2010). With 20 years of experience as the owner of a small architecture firm, and over 10 years as a consultant and educator, Rena brings a special understanding of design firms managed by entrepreneurial architects. Rena served as executive editor of AIA’s The Architect’s Handbook of Professional Practice, 15th edition (Wiley 2013) and is past-chair of the national Advisory Group for the AIAPractice Management Knowledge Community.



Nancy Kleppel, M.Arch, Assoc. AIA

Business Development Expert

For over 25 years Nancy has consistently delivered real, measurable results for design and construction services firms. Nancy began her career as a practicing architectural designer and shifted her focus to firm management and success in 1997 as Director of Business Development for SOM NY. Most recently, she served as the Director of Business Development for North America and a member of the 4-person regional management team for Turner & Townsend, a global program, project, and cost management firm. Nancy joined Appleseed Strategy as a Principal in early 2015. Nancy is a native New Yorker and holds a BA from Brown and a MArch from Harvard. She has also studied textile design at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Fashion Institute of Technology.



Misty Levis

Financial Manager 

Misty applies her high level of organizational skills to overseeing all of Charrette Venture Group’s finances. Misty manages the billing of our investment partners and maintains all of our financial records.


Emily Hall

Marketing & Messaging Expert

Emily has over 15 years of architectural marketing experience, with a focus on communicating the unique value that small design firms have to offer. In her role as Director of Marketing and New Business Development at Union Studio Architecture & Community Design, she helps guide the firm’s strategic marketing efforts while identifying new project opportunities. She also consults with Charrette Ventures Group as a Marketing and Messaging Expert. Emily is president and a founding board member of DESIGNxRI, a non-profit organization focused on creating an opportunity-driven environment for Rhode Island’s design businesses to thrive. She received an MBA from the University of Rhode Island, a Master of Industrial Design from Rhode Island School of Design, and a Bachelor of Arts from Colorado College with a double major in art history and studio art.


Lisa Saldivar

Brand & Website Design Expert

Lisa has eight years experience in designing for the online and print landscapes. She has played a key role in each phase of launching a website including planning, UI/UX, design, production and front-end development (including HTML and CSS). She has also worked on global brands advertising in national newspapers and magazines across the world.

Sarah Rowe

Office Manager

Sarah brings her organizational and efficiency skills to Charrette Venture Group as an office manager, working to fulfill daily administrative details including scheduling, general communication and other as-needed tasks. Her background includes four years of coordinating and scheduling over one hundred individuals for different areas based on need, planning and managing various types of events, and creating and implementing systems to streamline workflow.
