12 May Clever Moderns Named Finalists in Architecture Business Plan Competition

Architect Earl Parson plans to deliver architectural services through online platform

LOS ANGELES – May 6, 2016: Earl Parson is a Los Angeles, California based Architect and a finalist in Charrette Venture Group’s Architecture Business Plan Competition. His proposed business model, Clever Moderns, proposes delivery of architectural services through an online platform. This would give owner-builders the opportunity to connect with architects and still have a powerful hand in creating their own home.

Parson’s notion bloomed when he began questioning, “What if we as architects approached our work and our client relationships from a different angle?”

Inspired by the competition, which also he entered last year but didn’t submit an entry, Parson took his idea and developed a better understanding of his goals for Clever Moderns.

Participating in the competition brought about a new level of clarity and seriousness to his ideas. “The fact of a competition even existing brought a level of awareness to me around taking these ideas seriously and developing some facility around planning and running your business… a business plan needs to have market research and a business plan needs to have financial projections and I just was overwhelmed with those ideas. I’ll tell you, going through a year and a cycle of the competition coming up and really wrestling with those things to the extent that I did, even if it didn’t lead me to ultimately overcome them in that competition cycle and submit an entry, it put me in a position of being on the lookout for ways to learn about that kind of stuff.”

According to Matt Ostanik, Founder of Charrette Venture Group and organizer of the Architecture Business Plan Competition: “In the technology world, there is an overwhelming supply of resources to help new and growing companies. There are constant business plan competitions, pitch sessions, incubator programs, mentor circles, research, etc. etc. However, in the design space there is very little to aid for these entrepreneurs. The ultimate goal of Charrette Venture Group is to serve as an investment firm that helps growing design firms.”

This graduate of Southern California Institute of Architecture, Parson plans to unite people from all corners of the globe through Clever Moderns and ultimately create more opportunities for fellow architects and empower homeowners. Clever Moderns also pushes the idea that you can build your house and change your life.

According to Parson, “It can be a catalyst for radical self-improvement and lifestyle overhaul that I think a lot of people would love to have but they don’t know where to start or how to get something like that off the ground. I’m proposing a platform for that …” To learn more about his innovative approach, visit CleverModerns.com.
